Jersey Stories

Saluki Athletics, SIH, and the SIH Foundation would like to express our appreciation to the jersey winners for your generosity and support of the Salukis Blackout Cancer event.  Your commitment has allowed us to help patients in need through the SIH Coach Kill Cancer Fund. Your assistance means so much to those patients seeking medical care for cancer and childhood diseases. The stories of why you support this event are even more special and we would like to share why our donors support this event.

  • I bid on this jersey in memory of my grandmother Jo who was a breast cancer survivor. She was an amazing woman who graduated from college in the 1920s. She obtained her pilot's license at Boeing Field in Seattle in early 1941. Sadly, her flying career was cut short by WWII. Later in life, she would type the Bible in Braille for the blind. She was very caring and encouraging of all of her grandchildren. She was an amazing woman. - Brian
  • Cancer also affects animals. Our cat, Henrietta, was diagnosed with cancer in her right elbow and had to have her right front leg removed. Two years later Henrietta is doing fine. - Falko
  • Ms. B is a local high school teacher who has been diagnosed with terminal cancer, Multiple Myeloma, which has no cure. She has taken chemo and recently had a stem-cell transplant to extend her life. This procedure and how she responds will determine her outcome. She has the support and love of the faculty and student body at her school. This jersey is a testament to her courage and fight. - Brett

  • Judy is a two-time cancer survivor. we want to support the Foundation and women's basketball. - Robert

  • I have recently been diagnosed with Metastatic Lobular Breast Cancer. Currently waiting for my surgery date to arrive. My mom and I are both alumni, and both have been diagnosed with breast cancer. - Kelly

  • Lisa was an extraordinary lady, her magnetism, charm, and love for life attracted even those who didn’t know her. Her infectious smile and quick-witted humor made spending time with her a memorable and fun adventure. We lost Lisa to esophageal cancer in December 2018. As a mother, sister, aunt, daughter, and remarkable friend, we will forever cherish the memories shared. You will forever be deeply missed, sis! I love you endlessly. Thank you Blackout Cancer for keeping her name alive and celebrating those impacted by this devastating disease. - Lisa
